San Gerardo de Dota

El Savegre Hotel, Natural Reserve and Spa in San Gerardo de Dota was my favorite hotel of the trip. This is truly a bird lover’s paradise! There were many serious birders at this location. We got great views of the male and female Resplendent Quetzal. The grounds of the lodge were simply gorgeous and beautifully landscaped. There were colorful flowers, plants and trees everywhere, and hummingbird and other bird feeders all over the property. There were beautiful birds wherever you looked! The rooms were large, immaculate and comfortable. It is so high up in the mountains (7,500 feet), that the air is crisp and refreshing. It can get a bit chilly in the evenings and the very early morning, so a jacket is needed. There are many beautiful places to hike on or near the hotel grounds. The bar and lounge is different than anything I've ever seen. There is a round, stone fireplace in the middle of the room with various comfortable chairs, couches and tables all around. It's a wonderfully cozy place to spend time in the evening after dinner.
